About

An ongoing project for the multiplayer game of attention.

Wise Eyes Open began with a simple frustration: the tools we use to live, work and learn are engineered for individual capture, while the things we most want such as focus, health, meaningful work, durable relationships are inherently shared

We treat willpower as a networked resource. Some of what we publish is research and essays. Some of it is interviews. Some of it ships as software like nomp, our first product, live on the App Store with Android in testing

We call this Connected Personal Growth: change is easier together. Its four fields overlap: Digital Wellbeing, Living Well & Living Long, Ongoing Learning, and Work & Projects. We work where the most interesting design problems live and where we can make a helpful difference.

Change is easier together

Willpower is a single-player game rigged for you to lose. Most of us play it anyway: a private promise, a fresh start on Monday, a quiet slide by Thursday. That is not weakness. It is a badly designed game.

The running club that expects you. The friend who asks how the course is going. We keep the promises other people can see.

We call this networked willpower: resolve lasts longer when it is shared. So we write about it, test it in the open and build multiplayer tools. The first is nomp.

We like technology. We think it should connect us to the changes we want, and to each other.

That is Connected Personal Growth: change is easier together.

Personal growth was never meant to be solitary.

What we believe

  • Solo discipline is overrated for some of us. Shared intent is undervalued for most of us
  • Most attention problems are coordination problems in disguise
  • Tools should make the right thing easier, not the wrong thing harder
  • Long term projects, public notes, transparency & small teams
